Frances Knight
Painting Color and Light

BIO:

After graduating from Camberwell School of Art, Frances Knight won a  Commonwealth and British Council  Scholarship to do  her postgraduate studies in India where she graduated with a 1st class M.F.A.  She  spent many years in India studying  Transcendental Meditation, researching into  consciousness and  working for a  non-profit charity dedicated to create  world peace.

Her paintings explore the  effects of light colour  and  structure in the landscape. She often works outside on location,  and  then returns  to  the studio  to  create larger paintings  from these  studies, exploring  further  the abstract effects of shape,  structure  and colour harmony.

She is a  member of  the Unity Studios in Chichester and the Netherlands Association of Plein Air Painters (Nederlandse Vereniging Van Plein Air Schilders) .

Her paintings  are in private  collections in USA , Canada India  and Europe

“ I  am inspired by light, painting  on location  directly  from nature, I  seek  to  communicate  that  experience  of transcendence  that is  fundamental  to all of  creation.”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My paintings  are inspired by the deep harmony and underlying unity that I experience in nature. My landscapes  explore  the effects of  light colour and  structure - the  interrelationship of  abstract  shapes and  linear  definition, accurate observation and  spontaneous  fluid  expression,  the  dynamic between the physical tactile  quality of the painted  surface and the  expression of infinite  space.

I often  work outside on  location directly from nature, and  then return to  the studio  to  create larger paintings from these  studies

exploring  further the  abstract  effects of  shape  structure an  colour harmony.

When I create  i feel  I am  discovering  more of  myself.

My goal is  to have  my paintings  filled  with light and to  express  the  deep  silence  that underlies creation,  that is  beyond  what one  can  see,  I hope  those  looking at  my paintings  will  discover more of  themselves, and  through  my paintings feel uplifted  and  filled  with light  and happiness.
